Research

My research interests center on Computer Assisted Language Learning, Second Language Acquisition, instructional material design, second language assessment, and translation studies. I am particularly interested in Design-Based Research (DBR) and Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) for the teaching and learning of the Spanish language and culture. I have co-authored a Spanish language textbook Pura Vida, published in 2014 by Wiley & Sons. The textbook program utilizes research findings in SLA related to TBLT as the basis for constructing the activities featured in the book. I have also published a number of sole-author and co-authored articles in leading scholarly journals in the field (Language Learning & Technology, CALICO, Language Assessment Quarterly, New Approaches in Education Research, Applied Language Learning, and Hispania). I am currently working on the development of a web-based placement test for beginning, intermediate, and advanced Spanish.
